Episode Two: Candy Man

M
y wife Donna would be defined as Caucasian or white. She’s gorgeous in the dead of winter but in the summer she tans nicely. In fact she is darker than my mother right now and she doesn’t tan excessively. My mother would be classified as black. I see a problem there. My father is darker than I and my siblings and I all vary in skin tone. So don’t be surprised when I tell you that growing up in a household that obviously had a multi-racial background, the terms black and white with regard to people never quite made sense to me. I’ve taught my daughters to use descriptive terms to describe the various aspects of the people they know. My skin is about the color of a good milk chocolate. It’s descriptive, accurate and it leads to funny situations every now and then.
